Quartz countertops are engineered stone, made with about 90% crushed quartz mixed with resin and pigments. This makes them non-porous, highly resistant to stains and scratches, and very low maintenance. Granite, on the other hand, is a natural stone quarried from the earth. While beautiful and durable, it's porous and requires regular sealing to prevent staining. For busy Los Angeles kitchens, quartz often offers a more practical, worry-free option.

The material often referred to as 'fake granite' is typically engineered quartz. Quartz countertops are man-made and can be designed to mimic the look of natural stones like granite, marble, and even concrete. They offer the aesthetic appeal of natural stone with enhanced durability and consistency. If you're looking for that granite look without the natural stone's porosity and maintenance needs, quartz is a fantastic option for your Los Angeles kitchen.

The main downsides of granite countertops involve their porosity and maintenance. Because granite is a natural stone, it can absorb liquids, leading to stains if not sealed properly and regularly. It can also chip or crack under heavy impact. While beautiful, this means more upkeep compared to engineered materials. If you're in a busy Los Angeles household, you might find the low-maintenance nature of quartz more appealing for your kitchen.
